Laptop docking stations require the PC be put in sleep or standby before undocking. Programmers connected to the docking station requires a driver that always runs in the Windows background, whether the programmer or the software is running or not. Windows will not allow the laptop to go into sleep or standby because of the driver. The user must power down the laptop or disable the port in order to freely undock the PC without error.
This solution causes a side-effect. Enabling a disabled port forces the user to reboot the laptop in order for the driver to detect/communicate with the port.
